Biography
Jerry BELLAMY was born in Paris.
Passionate about music since childhood, he started learning his first guitar chops with ace instructor Mauro Serri (Lavilliers, Eddy Mitchell, Bill Deraime, Luther Allison) before leaving for the United States in 1987 to pursue an MBA at Northeastern University in Boston.
Once his studies were completed, he first turned to record production, producing in 1989 a four-track EP with a clear R’N’B coloring.
Engineered at legendary Syncro Sound studios owned by the group THE CARS with whom he would often chill with between sessions and mixed by Phil Greene, responsible for the sound of the then multi-platinum act NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, he enlists the services of local Soul Diva MARGO THUNDER on two tracks which open the doors of local clubs to him.
Back in France in the mid-90s, Jerry kept on gigging as a guitarist with different groups, while devoting himself to music journalism for CROSSROADS magazine. Several hundred articles, interviews and record reviews were published in the magazine over ten years, while a bunch of liner notes commissioned by Warner or Sony Music were featured on reissues albums by major artists.
A fan of genre cinema, he also distributed through his company, RECIDIVE, twenty-six feature films, mostly American, in the French territory from 2009 onwards, alongside his work as a touring musician. His movie releases included many films of quality, among which THE CANYONS (by Paul Schrader) and BEYOND LIES, adapted from the American best seller THE ADDERALL DIARIES, featuring a prestigious cast including James Franco, Amber Heard and Ed Harris.
The meeting with English songwriter MARK VENNIS in 2009 is an important step in Jerry’s musical career.
Now mainly based in Santa Monica (California), Jerry Bellamy, at the invitation of Mark Vennis, joins a side project with variable geometry, THE BLUES HOUSE OUTFIT. A popular cover band, TBHO is hitting the clubs of Southern California, experiencing growing success until 2020.
A regular guest performer in the U.K at gigs with Vennis and his flagship group, MARK VENNIS & DIFFERENT PLACE, Jerry Bellamy performs in London on numerous occasions, while devoting himself to writing his first solo album, ROLLING THE DICE, which was released in September 2017.
Masterfully produced by GEYSTER who also plays bass and keyboards, ROLLING THE DICE skillfully mixes Americana and Soft Rock with more atmospheric pieces a la Pink Floyd. The press praises an obvious JJ.Cale / Mark Knopfler connection (a very laid-back groove and airy guitars played most often with a clean sound), as well as a pronounced taste for sophisticated vocal harmonies. After a tour delayed for family reasons, then definitively canceled due to Covid and successive lockdowns, Jerry Bellamy finally marks his return to the music scene with his brand new album, THE TRAVELER, to be released in March 2024.
Preceded by the single For All You Bikers, a roaring ode to motorcycles that summons memories of the Rolling Stones of 1973 and almost all Hard Rock bands of the 70’s, THE TRAVELER is once again produced by Geyster, who also performs about all keyboards arrangements.
Taking up the formula of the previous record, i.e. stacks of state of the art vocal harmonies on top of lyrical guitar flights and supported by virtuoso keyboards, the record is loaded with potential hits, cut out for FM radios and the Classic Rock scene.
« The balance between vocal harmonies, guitar flights and virtuoso keyboards creates a perfect symphony, where each element contributes to the whole in a balanced way »
